Adjusting Social Security/Medicare Wages on Form W-2

After inputting the wages in box 1 of Form W-2, you may notice that the auto-populated amounts in boxes 3-6 may be different. This is common if the taxpayer has retirement or other items deducted from their pay. 

Follow the instructions below to modify the amounts in W-2 boxes 3-6:

1. Begin by entering any codes and dollar amounts in W-2 box 12. The codes on box 12 can change the numbers in boxes 3-6.

2.  If after entering all amounts in box 12 the amounts on 3-6 are still incorrect, type in the light blue box directly below the box you wish to change.
